Bird Foraging Behavior
A normal bird has 4 activities during the day: foraging for food, preening, singing, and sleeping. However, in pet birds, since the need for foraging is eliminated, they are left with 3 activities and dedicate most of their time to sleeping. To make pet birds more social, they need to be encouraged to forage for their food. Birdseed should not be placed readily in front of them, but should be hidden under objects or in a difficult-to-reach place where the bird can find it.
Birds' Lives and Food Needs
By trying to find food with its beak and feet, the bird will engage in more social interactions. Occupying the bird with a task rather than sleeping will cause it to become more lively and sing more, while also improving its relationship with people. Therefore, birdseed should not be placed readily in front of them, but should be hidden occasionally to encourage foraging. For those who have both birds and cats at home, birdseed should also be carefully selected for the health of the animals.
