Why Do Pimples Form? How Are They Treated?

When Do Pimples Appear?

The skin creates an oil layer to protect itself from germs, chemicals, and external factors like cold air or sun. However, in some individuals, the oil glands work excessively, and the openings of the oil gland ducts tend to get clogged. As a result, the swollen and blocked oil gland becomes inflamed and leads to pimples. Pimples usually start with adolescence. However, it is not an issue exclusive to adolescence. It can be seen in different age groups. Pimples are particularly seen on the face, back, and the front of the torso, where oil glands are concentrated. Hormonal changes, diet, genetic predispositions, and skin structure contribute to the presence of more or fewer pimples. To reduce pimples, attention must be paid to skin cleansing. The skin should be cleansed twice a day, in the morning and evening, with a suitable product. Oily foods, fast food, excessively saucy salads, high consumption of spices, and foods like chocolate cause pimples to increase.

What Factors Increase Pimples?

Smoking and alcohol are other causes that increase pimples. Creams not suitable for the skin type, especially those used by women, are also a cause of pimples. Women sleeping without removing their makeup invites pimples. Squeezing pimples will spread the bacteria in the area to the entire face, thus widening the pimple-affected area and leaving scars. Additionally, one should not touch their face unnecessarily. Every touch increases the number of bacteria on the skin. Bacteria thrive in moist environments. When the pimple-affected area sweats, it should be washed clean and dried. Individuals taking "A" vitamin tend to have fewer pimples on their skin. Vitamin A is abundant in carrots, cabbage, apples, pears, eggplants, green peppers, celery, cauliflower, spinach, tomatoes, potatoes, and green beans.
