We cannot say that there are many options for those who want to choose their profession in the sky. Airplane piloting, helicopter piloting, or flight attendant are professions that are ready to make this dream come true. Astronaut, which is a bit of a far-fetched example, can also be counted among these professions. However, this is an experience that very few people can have. Each of these professions has its own ways, training, and processes. Since our topic today is flight attendant, we will try to provide information on what needs to be done to proceed on this path.
Is flight attendant known as hostess or steward among the public?
Female staff are called hostesses, and male staff are called stewards. Looking at the general numbers, the number of female staff working in this profession is higher than men. Airlines expect candidates for flight attendant positions to have certain qualifications. To mention the first requirement, good knowledge of English is a must for airlines, and knowing a second language is a preference. At least a high school diploma is required, and having a bachelor's or associate's degree is a preference. Height cannot be less than 1.60 cm. In some exceptional cases, it can be reduced to 1.59 cm. The height range for women is set between 1.60-1.75 cm, and for men between 1.70-1.85 cm, and in addition, weight should be proportional to height. For inexperienced staff to be employed, if they have not worked as a flight attendant before, the age range is between 18 and 27. However, this range can be higher for those who have already worked in this profession. Candidates who meet these criteria undergo interviews and exams at airlines. Those who are successful are taken into in-company training and start their duties at the end of the training. Just like the enjoyable and fun aspects of the profession, there are also difficult sides. Being away from home is one of them. Therefore, like many jobs, flight attendant is a profession that must be done with passion. The career path of a flight attendant is also open. After working for a certain period, they can retire and become a purser, reaching a managerial position. The reward for success in the profession is not only financial but also a good career. When we talk about the salaries of flight attendants (stewards, hostesses), we can say that the average is 2500-3000 TL. This figure can vary depending on the flight and the airline. First of all, we recommend that individuals who want to have this profession study in the 2-year flight attendant programs at universities. This program, which will be studied for 3 years including 1 year of English preparatory class, will definitely be a preference factor. Because the training received is directly vocational training, it will be an invaluable asset for companies. If this is not possible, the chances should be increased by graduating from a bachelor's degree program.
