Dry Skin Causes and Treatment

Skin dries out in seasons lacking moisture, especially in winter, or in very hot summer weather. Environmental factors are also important. Exposure to hot water or detergents and chemical substances can also cause dry skin. Being in air-conditioned environments and frequent showers are also among the causes of dryness. Dryness can also be seen due to a decrease in skin's moisture content with aging. The fabrics of the clothes worn and friction can also be counted among the causes of dryness.

Diseases Can Be a Cause

Just as external factors can cause dry skin, some diseases can also be responsible. Thyroid patients, psoriasis patients, and ichthyosis cause dryness in the skin. Redness and itching accompanying skin flaking may also occur. Dryness can occur in any area of the skin. For treatment, it should first be determined whether it originates from a disease. Medication or a different method may be applied to treat the disease. Patients are recommended medications or creams that will provide the skin's moisture level. Especially in cosmetic products, water-based products with high moisturizing properties are used. At the same time, one should not be excessively exposed to the sun and must go out using a moisturizer.
